If Oscars is for Hollywood, then Twitter has got a Shorty Awards

In case you never heard of Shorty Awards, it is the Oscar of Hollywood and Tonys of Broadway. Now the Twitter has this Shorty Awards.

It is awarded to the best people and organizations on Twitter and social media. It rewards to Twitter users for their whole body of work and excellent tweets over the last year.

Winners will be selected by a combination of popular vote and by the panel of judges who called themselves as Real-Time Academy of Short Form Arts & Sciences.

Last year’s event were held at the TimesCenter in New York City hosted by CNN’s Rick Sanchez. It was full of surprises and winners are given a chance to have a 140-character acceptance speeches including Sesame Street’s Grover and Newark mayor Cory Brooker to name a few.

The 2011 Shorty Award ceremony will be held in March in New York City. They’ll be choosing six finalists in each category this February. Selected winners will also complete a 140-character acceptance speeches.

I know someone on Twitter that deserves some props. She’s Angel Locsin, who is leading in actress category. We have until February 11, 2011 to vote for her by going to the site or sending a tweet like the one pasted below.
